Developers to create titles to help promote Lionsgate and BFI movies

£100k Games for film contest ends next week

There is just one week left to enter the £100k games for film competition.

The contest, which sees developers create a game to promote a new film, will offer two £25k prizes to the two teams who “innovatively” promote the upcoming theatrical release of two British films called Spike Island and Smash and Grab: The Story of the Pink Panthers.

Another two £25k prizes will be be awarded for proposals that successfully demonstrate how a game can be used for a film’s cinematic or home release.

Winners will get he chance to work with Lionsgate to develop prototypes for films that may include the likes of The Expendables 2, Dirty Dancing, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D and Great Expectations.

To enter, applicants must answer five questions on their project and reasons for applying, and put together a two minute video of their concept.

Applications for the competition end midday BST on September 20th,

The competition has been set up by the University of Abertay, who will back the contest through its Prototype fund, D-Media and IC Tomorrow in association with Lionsgate UK and the British Film Institute.

“Games for Film is an incredible opportunity for game developers to try a new, exciting area and to work with two of the biggest names in the film industry, BFI and Lionsgate,” said Abertay University director of business development Paul Durrant.

"The Abertay Prototype Fund invests in launching new companies and testing out business opportunities in interactive media. Games have huge potential to help other creative industries like film reach an audience in new ways, and we look forward to receiving very high quality applications for this exciting contest.”
