New features include 4K support, custom shaders and revamped UI

Allegorithmic releases Substance Painter 1.0

Substance Painter 1.0, the latest version of Allegorithmic’s painting application, is now available.

The new release adds a range of features, including support for 4K high-definition and custom shaders. The software allows developers to add age, decay and fractures to their textures for both 2D and 3D objects.

Substance Painter 1.0 also features a customised version of Popcorn FX’s particle editor, and a new user interface.

The software is available for both Mac and Windows, priced at $149 for independent artists and $590 for a pro licence. Substance Painter is available through Steam, the Unity Asset store and Allegorithmic’s website.

"The time has come to unleash Substance Painter 1.0," said Allegorithmic founder and CEO Sébastien Deguy. "After a humbling and exciting beta phase that confirmed how ready the industry has been a revolutionary tool, Substance Painter has grown to include the production-level feature set game artists need to create the most realistic textures in the business.

"Of course, Substance Painter will keep evolving quickly and profoundly in the future, but this release is our signal that now is a good time to jump in."
