Americans clueless about Blu-Ray

A new nationwide US survey has concluded that less than half of high-definition television owners in the know what a Blu-Ray disc is.

According to CNet, that’s an improvement over a year ago, up from the 35 per cent of HDTV owners who recognised the format in June 2007.

According to The NPD Group, 45 percent of HDTV owners surveyed said they were "familiar" with the format, but only nine percent said they planned on buying a Blu-Ray player in the next six months.

The report also suggested that Blu-Ray player prices are still too high compared with less expensive upscaling DVD players that are "good enough" for most consumers.
