App Store closing in on 50 billion downloads

The App Store is closing in on 50 billion downloads.

To celebrate the imminent landmark, Apple is offering the person who downloads the 50 billionth app a $10,000 App Store Gift Card. The firm is also awarding a $500 Apple Store Gift Card for the subsequent 50 users to download an app.

The impressive milestone comes just over a year after the App Store hit 25 billion downloads in March 2012.

Apple has also revealed the top all-time free and paid apps for iPhone and iPad in the UK. Games account for seven of the top ten all time paid apps on iPhone, which includes Angry Birds, Doodle Jump, Fruit Ninja, Cut The Rope, Angry Birds Seasons, Monopoly and Draw Something.

Just two games feature in the top free apps of all time oh iPhone however, with Temple Run and Draw Something Free amongst the likes of Facebook, Skype, eBay, Twitter and YouTube.
