Apple introduces red iPhone 7, refreshes iPad lineup

A new colour has been added to the iPhone 7 lineup.

Consumers are now able to buy the iPhone 7 in red, as well as the existing colours Jet Black, Black, Silver, Gold and Rose Gold. As is often the way with red tech, it is being launched in conjunction with AIDS charity (RED).

The introduction of this special edition iPhone in a gorgeous red finish is our biggest RED offering to date in celebration of our partnership with (RED), and we can’t wait to get it into customers’ hands," Apple CEO Tim Cook said.

Apple was recently involved in a (RED) charity drive on the App Store.

The red handset will be available from March 24th in both 128GB and 256GB varieties.

Apple has also refreshed its iPad lineup, dropping the 9.7 inch iPad Air 2 in favour of a slightly tweaked device simply called the iPad. Specs wise the new model is largely the same as the old, although the A8X chip has been replaced with a newer A9.

The price has been dropped too, at $329 for the 32GB wi-fi and $459 for the sim card version. Oddly, it’s also a little thicker and heavier than its predecessor – a trade-off for the lower RRP, presumably, with the iPad Pro now serving high-end buyers.

Note that the iPad Mini 2 seems to have been dropped, although the iPad Mini 4 remains available.

Lastly, the iPhone SE has seen a storage increase, with the 16GB and 64GB versions being doubled to 32GB and 128GB respectively. The prices remain the same.
