First game was an 'astonishing experience' for Ubi producer Puel

Assassin’s Creed II team focusing on diversity

Speaking to Develop in the first of three features looking at the development of Assassin’s Creed II, the game’s producer Sébastien Puel has revealed that the focus of his team’s efforts have been on bringing variety to the sequel to Ubisoft’s popular adventure game.

"Our main focus is to bring diversity and depth to the gameplay: more variety in missions and objectives, more weapons, more diverse assassinations and a deep character progression," revealed Puel.

"We really want Assassin’s Creed II to be unpredictable and have the player wonder after each main assassination: ‘and now, what’s next?’" he added.

The news will be welcomed by those who criticised the first Assassin’s Creed for its lack of variety. While as a technical feat the game was praised, many reviewers highlighted the fact the gameplay often felt repetitive.

In spite of such comments, Puel and his colleagues remain proud of the first game. "Assassin’s Creed was an astonishing experience," stated the producer. "I believe it brought entirely new elements to the industry by allowing players to fluidly navigate an urban environment while enjoying breathtaking views and full freedom of control."

The team behind Assassin’s Creed II is one of the largest ever assembled, and is charged with spearheading new explorations in technology and the game-movie crossover. To read more about the game, check back over the next two days.
