Codemasters has been praising mocap partner Audiomotion for its work using Vicon cameras on the recently released Brian Lara Cricket 2007.

Audiomotion hits Brian Lara for six

Claiming that the new cricket title is the most realistic to date, Codemasters and Audiomotion have been fleshing out details behind their capture of sporting movements and agility using Vicon’s MX40+ rig. The team at Audiomotion recorded hundreds of variations of movements for both the bulk of hte interactive gameplay and non-interactive sequences.

Explained lead artist at Codemasters, Phil Warner: “The key to the system was having a number of break points in the animation where the player could change the outcome of the move. Breaking the animation sequences down into very short chunks has the effect of allowing the fielder in the game to react quickly to the users input.”

He added: “We adapted the capture area to make sure the moves we were capturing were exactly what we required. The net result was a big saving in production time. It also meant animators didn’t have to spend weeks adjusting the data to meet the game’s specifications.”
