Design middleware firm makes first release since Illuminate Labs acquisition

Autodesk Beast 2011 ships

Autodesk, the US design middleware firm, has shipped its Autodesk Beast 2011 GI lighting solution.

The release, which marks the first new Autodesk product since the firm acquired Illuminate Labs in July this year, has been designed with the intention of helping developers avoid lighting setups and minimising runtime costs.

Autodesk Beast 2011 features three ‘key’ components that Autodesk has said will aid this aim. LiquidLight is a core baking technology for advanced GI and dynamic relighting of characters.

ErnsT is an interactive editor that helps artists control and explore lighting setups and DistriBeast is a distribution engine for running renders on multiple machines.
