Former VP of business development steps up to lead Just Cause firm

Avalanche names Pim Holfve as first CEO

Pim Holfve has been appointed CEO of Avalanche Studios, the developer behind the Just Cause series and the upcoming Mad Max.

Holfve joined the firm back in 2012, initially leading subsidiary Expansive Worlds, having previously worked at King and EA. He eventually became the studio’s VP of business development and has now risen to CEO.

The appointment is significant because Avalanche has never had a CEO until now. The studio claims the responsibilities have been “unofficially shared” between founder Christofer Sundberg and Linus Blomberg”.

Avalanche cited changes to the games market and its plans to “self-publish part of its portfolio” as reasons for the new appoinment.

“I’m honoured to have been named CEO, and very excited about the possibilities that lie in our future,” said Holfve. “Avalanche Studios is one of the few independent studios left standing in a market that is rapidly changing, so we have exciting times ahead of us.

“I look forward to working with the entire Avalanche Studios team to strengthen our offering to publishers around the world, and to keep growing our self-publishing business.”
