Blizzard is reducing Overwatch duplicates, alter Hearthstone card packs

The RNG lottery that is Overwatch Loot Boxes and Heartstone card packs is about to get a little kinder.

Overwatch players have long lamented the frequency with which duplicates seem to crop up. Now game director Jeff Kaplan has said via an update video that the rate of duplicates is to be greatly reduced.

We’re going to make significant improvements to the loot box experience,” Kaplan said in today’s developer update. We’re going to do is drastically reduce the rate of duplicates that you’ll get out of any loot box.

Keep in mind that the system doesn’t have infinite content so at some point you’re going to get duplicate items. But we think the changes should be very drastic and significant.”

And in instances where duplicates do occur, Blizzard is going to increase the amount of credits you get out of loot boxes”.

Also up for adjustment are card packs in Hearthstone.

Alongside the release of the next expansion, card packs from that point on be guaranteed to never throw up a Legendary duplicate. This also gives players more freedom to craft Legendaries, as there will be no fear that the very same card might turn up in the next card pack.

Furthermore, players will be guaranteed one Legendary for every ten packs they open. Packs will also never contain more copies of a card than can be used in a deck – so there will never be more than two of any given card.
