Bloodborne board game Kickstarter smashes target by over $1 million in just two days

A campaign to create a tabletop board game based upon FromSoftware’s critically acclaimed PlayStation 4 exclusive, Bloodborne, has smashed its £155,000 / $200,000 goal in just 17 minutes. It has now raised in excess of £1.2 / $1.6 million since it launched its crowdfunding campaign just two days ago.

“Bloodborne: The Board Game is a dark and challenging action game designed by Michael Shinall and Eric M. Lang, where 1 to 4 Hunters must explore the town of Yharnam and fight their way through beasts, monsters and frenzied townsfolk to survive the night and uncover the source of the madness that consumes it,” the Kickstarter campaign (thanks, GI.biz) states. “Based on the award-winning Bloodborne video game by Sony Interactive Entertainment, the board game brings the beloved title to life with amazing miniatures!”

Over 18,000 backers have pledged to bring the board game – which is currently awaiting “licensor approval” and will be designed by Michael Shinall and Eric M. Lang – to life. It follows other video-game-to-board-game ventures such as The Witcher, Resident Evil, and Dark Souls, which also smashed its original Kickstarter goal, raising over £3.7 million / $4.5 million from over 31,000 backers.

“We have just met our funding goal, and with only 17 minutes into our campaign – thank you very much for your support!” said developer CMON via a campaign update. “There’s a lot of exciting things to discover in Yharnam and in the depths below it. Arm yourselves, Hunters, for soon we’ll start our descent into the Chalice Dungeons. The Blood Moon rises, Hunters…”

The estimated delivery date for this project is May 2020, but the developer is keen to stress “this is only an estimate”. Also, due to the logistics of international shipping, backers in different regions of the world may receive their rewards sooner than others. The campaign has already hit several of its extensive stretch goals, too.
