Big UK games festival hopes to “spark innovation among young game creators”

Brains Eden returns this June

Brains Eden 2015 will once again give students and young developers the chance to get a headstart on the journey into professional development.

The event, which centres around a 48-hour game jam, will once again be hosted by Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge, running from Friday, June 26th to Monday, June 29th.

2015 marks the festival’s seventh year and will see support from some of the biggest games companies in the area, including Guerrilla Cambridge, PlayStation First, ARM, Unity and Jagex.

150 students from around the UK and Europe will be split into 30 teams and challenged to create a game from scratch over the weekend. The finished prototypes will be showcased on the Monday, with the best earning some great prizes for its team.

One winner will receive a freelance contract at Guerrilla Cambridge, while others will receive five lifetime subscriptions to Develop magazine, five Unity Pro licences worth £1,000 each, plus additional prizes. Meanwhile, five tablets will be awards to the best mobile game.

The rest of the festival will be dedicated to careers support, with talks from industry mentors and leaders on the Friday and Monday, including a joint workshop by Unity and ARM. The event will culminate in a celebratory parted hosted by Jagex.

“Brains Eden is a celebration of creativity; a fusion of skills, blood, sweat and even a few tears, to deliver a dream into reality in 48 hours,” said Guerrilla Cambridge senior producer Mark Green. “We love being part of that and never want to lose that passion in the games we create.

“We get some amazingly strong new members of staff through Brains Eden. A number of the universities attending the festival are at the very pinnacle of producing talented graduates, both technically and artistically highly skilled, and we’re always on the lookout for the best.”
