GDC 2014: Developer returns to markerless mo-cap system it used for Halo: Reach

Bungie’s Destiny harnesses Faceware tech

Bungie will harness Faceware motion capture tech for its upcoming shooter Destiny.

The developer will use Faceware’s markerless mo-cap system to capture, analyse and transfer facial information to a digital format from which artists can then add further detail for in-game characters.

Bungie has previously used the tech for Halo: Reach.

“Faceware has been used on Academy Award-winning movies and some of the highest grossing triple-A videos games of all time,” said Bungie cinematics supervisor Dave Lieber.

“There’s a reason for that: their products are production proven, easy to use, and indispensable to any team wanting to elevate the realism of their character performances without being locked into a particular capture pipeline, rig or art style.”
