Call of Duty holds No.1 spot as Street Fighter V debuts in second place

Activision’s Call of Duty: Black Ops III claims its 11th week at the top spot in the UK and outperforms newcomer Street Fighter V.

No other entry in the first person shooter series has claimed this many No.1s – the previous record was 2009’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 which had a nine-week run at the top. All of these were consecutive.

Capcom’s new Street Fighter V debuts in second place. The title has had something of a troubled launch – the brawler’s servers had severe problems when the game came out, and it was released with a distinct lack of features. But it still launched to heavy praise from the games media.

The previous iteration in the series – 2009’s Street Fighter IV on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC – remains the highpoint for Week One sales for the fighting game franchise.

That wasn’t the only new starter in the Top Ten this week – Pokmon Super Mystery Dungeon debuted in ninth place.

A number of titles saw positive week-on-week sales, likely due to promotions during half term. FIFA 16 sales rose 65 per cent, while Grand Theft Auto V saw a 39 per cent rise in unit sales. Star Wars Battlefront also saw a 41 per cent jump in sales, and Fallout 4 sales jumped 70 per cent.

Below is the software Top Ten for the week ending February 20th:

1. Call of Duty: Black Ops III, Activision Blizzard
2. Street Fighter V, Capcom
3. FIFA 16, EA
4. LEGO Marvel’s Avengers, Warner Bros
5. Grand Theft Auto V, Rockstar
6. Star Wars Battlefront, EA
7. Fallout 4, Bethesda,
8. Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Siege, Ubisoft
9. Pokmon Super Mystery Dungeon, Nintendo
10. Minecraft: Story Mode, Telltale Games
