Gears of War creator claims he refused because ‘I love new IP and would’ve fucked up Silent Hills’

Cliff Bleszinski declined offer from Hideo Kojima to work on Silent Hills

Before film director Guillermo Del Toro became Hideo Kojima’s creative muse, the Metal Gear Solid mastermind considered someone else within the world of games.

Gears of War creator Cliff Bleszinski has revealed that he was among those Kojima asked to work on now-cancelled horror title Silent Hills.

“I was flattered but declined,” Bleszinski tweeted.

Expanding on the reason he turned down the offer, the developer, who is now working on new arena shooter LawBreakers under his own studio Boss Key, cited his preference for original franchises – adding that he ‘would’ve fucked it up’.

“I don’t like LA, I love new IP, and I woulda fucked up [Silent Hills],” he explained.

The now infamous saga of Silent Hills, which was canned by Konami last year after the release of ‘playable teaser’ PT, also included the news that Japanese horror manga artist and writer Junji Ito was to be involved in the game’s creation.
