Code Club UK has taken its after school programming education initiative global.
Celebrating its first anniversary, the scheme, which has already spawned over 800 after-school ‘Code Clubs’ for nine-to-11 year olds, is now set to reach children worldwide with the launch of Code Club World.
The scheme offers a new open source framework that offers teaching materials on a Github page for programmers and developers to download and translate into local languages.
Resources includesadvice on finding a venue, how to run a club, finding volunteers and creating a programming community.
The organisation said it would write a new set of projects every school term and post them on its GitHub page. Code Club World will aunch in French, German, Brazilian Portuegese, Ukranian and Turkish.
“We’ve had people contact us from all over the globe asking us if they can set up a Code Club in their country,” said Code Club founder Clare Sutcliffe.
“We’re a small operation here in the UK, so we’ve been unable to support anyone outside the UK. But, we’ve been listening and we don’t feel that Code Club should be restricted to just this small island. Which is why we’re incredibly excited, on our first birthday with over 800 active Code Clubs set up in the UK, to launch the Code Club World framework for the developer and programmer community to make a difference globally.”
Companies supporting the scheme includes the likes of Mozilla, Code Academy and Google.
