Tech will not require markers or make-up on actors

Dimensional Imaging unveils new head mounted facial performance capture system

Dimensional Imaging has unveiled a new head mounted camera system for facial performance capture.

DI4D HMC enables high fidelity facial performance without the need for markers, make-up or specialised illumination.

Dimensional Imaging will be at GDC next week to discuss the tech at booth 109.

"We are developing a head mounted version of DI4D to meet the industry’s increasing demands not only for more realistic facial animation, but also for more engaging and emotive performances," said Dimensional Imaging CEO Colin Urquhart.

"The system delivers the high fidelity of capture that Dimensional Imaging has become known for, but also allows acting talent the freedom to move and act freely. So far feedback from actors’ wearing DI4D HMC has been extremely positive. The system uses two synchronised, high resolution, high speed digital video cameras to capture high quality facial performances with fidelity close to that of our sit-down 4D capture system, but with the freedom of movement and convenience of untethered capture.

“As our head mounted system can be used simultaneously with traditional optical body mo-cap, full performance capture can be achieved. As a result, we believe that our head mounted system has huge potential in the entertainment industry, which is hungry for solutions that can deliver full performance capture with higher fidelity of facial data. We believe that this development will continue to establish Dimensional Imaging at the forefront of the performance capture industry.”
