Team says this will be "the biggest game Criterion has ever made"

E3 2014: Criterion Games shows off prototype footage of new IP

Burnout studio Criterion Games has given E3 attendees the first hint of its next title.

The new IP will be another vehicular action game, but this time it’s not just cars: boats, planes, helicopters, jetskis, snowmobiles and wingsuits will all be available to players.

EA showed off extremely early prototype footage during its E3 press conference. In fact, the publisher’s Patrick Soderlund stressed that the publisher "never usually shows games this early".

Criterion said it will be exploring the creation of new terrain not seen in their games before, and the entire game will be in first-person, inspired by the viral internet videos of extreme athletes.

The studio has also adopted new working methods and strategies, doing away with individual desks in its office to better work as a team and using new tools to iterate prototypes much faster.

There’s no clue as to when we’ll next see this new IP, but given how primitive the footage looked, it won’t be for quite some time.
