E3 according to Facebook – more women posting, Sony generate biggest conversation spike

More women are talking about E3 on social media than ever before, according to new figures from Facebook. Over the past 30 days, 43m people made 115m E3-related Facebook posts, likes and comments, with women making up 35 per cent of those interactions. This is up from just 10 per cent in 2016.

22 per cent of posts were also made by people aged 35 and over, and the top country talking about E3 on Facebook was, of course, the US, with the UK, Brazil, Australia and Mexico trailing behind.

Facebook also noted a huge spike in posts relating to EA’s FIFA over the past week, with 2.9m people posting about the new title. This is up 490 per cent compared to the previous week.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 also peaked a lot of interest from Facebookers, with posts up by 1,153 per cent, taking its total to 425,000.

Despite this, it was Sony who had the largest conversation spike, but Microsoft and EA have also managed to maintain a "strong and sustained conversation" since their respective conferences.

This year, more than ever before, we are excited to see the global digital footprint of E3 play out on Facebook," said Franco DeCesare, head of global console and online gaming at Facebook.

"Over the last few months, people around the world have taken to the platform to discuss and share the games they love with the people they care about. We’ve seen this community of gamers continue to grow and evolve each year – with women now taking a growing share of the conversation around E3. Facebook is the voice of the gaming community, with over 800 million people playing at least one Facebook-connected game every month."
