'Pay as you go' payment model for HP-backed Emergent Platform

Emergent unveils new dev platform for online games

Games development technology Emergent has today announced a new platform it says can reduce costs and time to market for online PC and multiplatform games.

Called the Emergent Platform, the tech is backed by a ‘pay as you go’ service model.

“We are leveling the playing field by offering to studios of any size the best infrastructure technologies available at an affordable cost so they can ‘stand-up’ and launch creative, compelling online PC and multi-platform games quickly,” said Geoffrey Selzer, CEO of Emergent.

He added: "We believe we are at the beginning of an industry renaissance where the technology and financial terms will finally support, instead of hinder, huge leaps in innovation and creativity. As developers and publishers are able to work with best-in-class technologies with virtually no upfront costs, we will see a whole new spectrum of games come to market, which will propel innovation and growth of the industry overall.”

Key to the new platform is a partnership with HP – the platform will be fully integrated with the hardware firm’s HP Flexible Computing Services.

“Together, Emergent and HP are unleashing the massive power of the Emergent Platform to help countless numbers of studios around the world bring creative new concepts to market more quickly and at significantly less cost and risk than ever before," said Selzer.

Several of Emergent’s Elements solutions will be integrated into the technology as well, with the beta of the software – available this month – set to include its Metrics and Dashboard tools plus HP software and tech from 3Tera and Aria Systems.
