Find out why you should stop making video games at Develop Live

Develop Live is nearly upon us, and there are plenty of motivational talks to look forward to – including one that will tell devs why they should stop making video games.

The session will be given by Brian Baglow, founder of Scottish Games Network, and will discuss the opportunities that lie outside the traditional games industry and why more studios should explore them.

Here’s Baglow’s summary:

"It’s getting simpler and simpler to make video games. More people than ever are making games and the global games market reaches a bigger audience, on ever more sophisticated devices than ever before. And game developers… well, game developers are finding it tough. Triple-A requires some serious cash and commitment. Mobile is a race to the bottom. Nobody wants to pay for anything and we’re all doomed. It’s just all rubbish.

"Except it’s not. It’s different. It’s a world where rescuing princesses, collecting coins or blowing things up in ever more realistic detail is not really the point any more. We can do more. Much more. Exciting new and wonderful things. If only we’d stop making video games and embrace the astonishing future and new opportunities which are in front of us.

"Includes a world exclusive: find out why it’s all Keith’s fault."

Develop Live will take place at The Traverse Theatre in Edinburgh, Scotland on Thursday, October 2nd. You can find out more about the full programme here.
