Fire Emblem Echoes debuts at No.1 in Japan

The 3DS remake of Intelligent System’s Fire Emblem Gaiden for the NES went straight to No.1 in Japan last week, according to the latest figures from Famitsu.

The latest entry in the Fire Emblem handheld series, re-titled Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia, shifted over 133,000 copies in its first week on sale, which bodes well for its UK release next month on May 19th. Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright debuted at No.5 in the UK charts when it launched in May 2016, with its companion title Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest entering the charts at No.11.

Elsewhere in the charts, Bandai Namco had a strong week with two new entries. Baseball game Pro Yakyu FamiSta Climax debuted at No.2 after 43,572 sales, and Dark Souls III: The Fire Fades Edition entered the charts at No.3 with 31,688 units sold. Dark Souls III has already sold at least 2m units worldwide, and the Fire Fades Edition comes with the full game and the season pass.

Aqua Plus’ Vita title Dungeon Travellers 2-2, meanwhile, sold almost 31,000 units in its first week, charting at No.4, and Sony’s PaRappa the Rapper Remastered for PS4 debuted at No. 9 after selling just over 6,000 copies.

The Nintendo Switch continues to dominate the charts, however, with the Switch edition of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild hanging on at No.6, 1-2-Switch at No.8 and the Switch version of Square Enix’s Minna de WaiWai! Spelunker entering the charts at No.10.

Switch was also the most dominant hardware platform last week, shifting another 40,367 units. Nintendo announced today it has sold 2.74m Switch consoles worldwide during its first month on sale.
