First details of Evo Japan revealed

The first details of the Evo Japan event that was first announced last year have been revealed, and it seems we have a while longer to wait.

The Evo Japan fighting game tournament will not take place until 2018, when it will hit the Akihabara UDX event center in Tokyo. The dates for the competition are penciled in as January 26th through 28th, and currently no games have been confirmed.

“Although it is known that Evo is the world’s biggest open gaming tournament, it’s more than just that,” said Noriyuki Kaneko, the chairman of Evo Japan. “In my experience, Evo is also the best event for the separate fighting game communities. Evo Japan will work to unite these many communities and fighting gamers from all over the world as well. We welcome everyone that has their own specific goals, ideas and purposes and hope to enjoy fighting games together.”

Before the main Evo Japan event takes place the company will run a smaller event, called sài, in May 2017. This event will also take place at the Akihabara UDX but will not feature any kind of seeding for top players. Sài will take place on May 20th and 21st and will feature competitions for Tekken 7: Fated Retribution, Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2, and one other game.
