Daniel Persson comes on board from the Candy Crush developer

Former head of studio at King joins SYBO

Danish game developer SYBO have annoucned that Daniel Persson is joining as head of games.

After leaving his role at King, Persson was head of studio at Goodgame Studios. Persson was hired to focus on game production but will be talking an interest in marketing and analytics for the studio as well.

"We are confident in Daniel’s ability to take SYBO to the next level," said SYBO CEO, Mathias Gredal Norvig. "Daniels journey with King almost from the beginning to a mature company, has given him an almost unprecedented experience and insight in our industry. On top of this, Daniel is a one-of-a-kind guy who can motivate, inspire and challenge colleagues at every level. We are excited to have him with us on this amazing journey.”

SYBO’s current game, Subway Surfers, ‘is played on every fourth smartphone in the world,’ the studio says. It was released back in 2012 along with another Danish developer, Kiloo.

“It was an easy choice for me to join SYBO," said Persson." There are strong people in every position, and SYBO is a company that is about to take a really big step forward with the game and the IP in general. It is incredible to see how far they have come with Subway Surfers, but I believe that they can go even further, in building an amazing universe that is truly worthy of fan devotion. ”

Goodgame have not had a great twelve months with the company cutting 100 jobs back in August 2016 after a restructure. However Develop was also told of greater issues within the studio with a source saying the amount of jobs lost was actually much higher.

SYBO have been making a lot of hires from the world of free to play development with former Popcap senior designer, Elizabeth Sampat joining the studio in January 2017.
