Former Q.U.B.E. developers start new studio, Advect Productions

Dan De Rocha and Benni Hill, former developers of the Q.U.B.E. games have opened a new development studio called Advect Productions.

De Rocha, who was a co-founder of Toxic Games and has worked on the Q.U.B.E. series and Hue, will serve as managing director, and Hill, who was a co-founder of White Paper Games, will be creative director.

The studio officially started in February 2017 but has only now been publically announced along with the current projects in developemt. The studio is currently managing production for Q.U.B.E. 2 and for Lost Worlds by Fourth State Games, but are also looking to help indie developers.

The idea is that in addition to building their own story driven games, the team will also use their production expertise to help smaller studios and projects. "We feel there’s a real need for good quality production within independent game studios," said De Rocha. "Production can quickly take a back seat to the hundreds of more pressing development tasks, however, if instilled correctly it’s simple to maintain and increase productivity. Our latest projects are testament to this process and now we’re working with great studios, sharing our experience and expertise as indie producers”

“Dan and I have wanted to come together and develop something new for quite some time," added Hill. "We share a similar philosophy and both wanted to develop games within the studio that explore moral predicaments, push genre and story conventions forward, and deliver high-quality visual experiences.”

Hill will also presenting a talk at the Develop Conference this week on Thursday’s Indie track, "called Breaking The Chain: How Good Production Management Helps Get Your Indie Game to Market."
