French acquisition and UKdeal grows Sony DADC

Sony DADC now handles over half the French games market’s distribution following the acquisition of Supply Chain Performance.

Swooping for the business based just outside Paris helps the firm make good on its promise to grow its power in physical distribution across all of Europe.

In February, Sony DADC told MCV that it was adding primary supply to its disc replication business, and was pushing for new partners in the UK and around Europe.

Acquiring a giant like SCP now means Sony DADC covers 52 per cent of the French games market, according to GfK numbers. Its customer base now reads like a Who’s Who of the entertainment industry, representing scores of well-known games publishers and movie studios.

This is a huge deal for us. We now have a great presence in physical distribution in that territory – we have over half the market,” said head of business development Rob Gross.

France is the second-biggest PAL territory for many publishers and formats, so we have scope now for very attractive pan-European deals. This fortifies what we were saying at the start of the year about expanding.”

He added: More exciting announcements will follow over the coming weeks.”

DADC’S NEW BOX

Meanwhile, Sony DADC continues to scoop up new business, signing publisher Funbox Media.

Partnering with Sony DADC was a no brainer for us on the primary side of our business, their distribution centre in Enfield is state of the art, their staff excellent and how many bigger brands are there in the world other than Sony?” said Funbox sales manager Mark Clemens.

I believe they will alter the game distribution landscape in the UK in a big way.”
