Japanese post-processing effects tool powering Sony’s latest blockbuster

From Software uses Yebis 2 for Bloodborne

Silicon Studio has revealed that its Yebis 2 post-processing effects software has been used in recent release Bloodborne.

The brutal action game, developed by From Software and exclusive to PlayStation 4, uses Yebis to create its moody and oppressing atmosphere. It is also used for the lighting effects.

The Japanese middleware is already in its third incarnation, with Yebis 3 launching last year, but there are still a wide variety of studios that use the earlier version.

“Through the power of Yebis 2, developers can create fantastic visual effects that complement their games,” said Silicon Studio CEO Takehiko Terada. “As seen in the incredibly realistic lighting effects seen in Bloodborne, Yebis 2 has the flexibility and power to achieve the visual goals of any game developer.”

Released last week, Bloodborne is a brand new title in a similar vein as From Software’s hit Dark Souls series.
