GAME cancels Resident Evil VII Collector’s Editions due to broken mansions

A broken batch of Resident Evil VII Collector’s Editions has led GAME to cancel several customer pre-orders. The 99 Collector’s Edition is exclusive to GAME and was meant to include a miniature replica of the Baker Mansion among other special items.

However, GAME has now admitted that these mansion replica statues had arrived damaged from the manufacturer, leading the retailer unable to fulfil customers’ orders.

However, according to Eurogamer, the retailer only emailed customers about the problem last night. Resident Evil VII launched in the UK this morning.

In the email, GAME said the problem was "beyond our control" and that it will refund any customer payments taken for the order. It’s also offering affected customers a 10 GAME Reward Points card as an apology.

Unfortunately, the statues that formed part of our Resident Evil 7 Collector’s Edition have arrived damaged from the manufacturer, Link Digital Spirit, and we are unable to send on to our customers," a GAME spokesperson told MCV.

"We will be contacting customers affected by this issue to offer a refund and a goodwill gesture, dependent on their specific order details.”

As we’ve previously detailed in our Resident Evil VII news hub, the Collector’s Edition doesn’t actually include a copy of the game itself, so customers would still have had to pre-order the game separately if they wanted to play it on launch day.

Instead, the Resident Evil VII: Collector’s Edition contained a 7in replica of the Baker Mansion, a 20th anniversary artbook, five lithographs, a dummy zombie finger USB stick, an alternative inlay for the game and a Survival Pack: Action Set of in-game items. Buyers would have also been able to unlock the additional Madhouse difficulty mode straight away.

This isn’t the first time GAME’s encountered pre-order problems with special edition titles. In 2015, the 170 GAME-exclusive Batmobile Edition of Batman Arkham Knight was pulled from saledays before release, and then a few months later in September some customers were accidentally charged for the special edition of Metal Gear Solid V instead of the regular standard edition of the game and found their order cancelled. The Metal Gear Solid V special edition was also a GAME exclusive. Then, in November, GAME customers were told their 100 Pip-Boy Edition of Fallout 4 had also been cancelleddue to payment issues.

Resident Evil VII launches on PS4, Xbox One and PC today, with Capcom predicting strong Day One sales of 4m copies. An extensive range of official merchandise for the game also launches today, which we’ve detailed in full in our extensive Margin Makers guide.
