New product from The Game Creators launches at GDC, preview on Steam today

GameGuru teaches players to develop 3D titles

Tools developer The Game Creators have lifted the lid on their latest project: a game creation tool that enables players to create their own titles.

GameGuru is a new product based around a "free roaming, realistic environment" that lets consumers sculpt levels, add buildings and characters, and then play the result as a fully-fledged video game.

The tool is aimed at aspiring game developers and is designed to let users create titles in minutes, which can then be expanded and iterated upon. Players will also be able to share and sell their games to other users.

GameGuru also comes with more than 10 ready-to-play sample games – including a modern day shooter, survival horror, medieval fantasy game, kids title and multiplayer maps – which users can them experiment with and adapt as they learn how to make their own titles.

The Game Creators will launch GameGuru at GDC with an Early Access version going live on Steam on March 2nd. It will be priced at $19.99, and is royalty free – all revenues generated by games created with the tool go to the designer.

A preview is due to go live on Steam today, but at the time of writing the page has yet to appear.

You’ll be able to read more about GameGuru in the next issue of Develop, which will also be available on the GDC show floor.

"If you’re looking for a great value game maker that takes minutes to learn, is powerful enough to deliver a modern gaming experience and allows you to sell what you make royalty-free, then it has to be GameGuru," said The Game Creators CEO Lee Bamber.

"With its powerful graphics engine, built-in asset libraries, example levels, instant multi-player game sharing mode and friendly community, you’ll find creating and sharing your games both rewarding and lots of fun."
