The game is a tie-in for TV show Lost, and is adapted from Gameloft’s already-released mobile game based on the series.
Available via iTunes for $4.99/£3.99, the Lost game is one of 14 titles available for the fifth generation iPod – but despite launching iPod games in September last year, Apple has kept tight control over the service, choosing to keep the iPod a closed platform for game development.
So far, the only other developers/publishers to have made games for the iPod which are for sale through iTunes are Electronic Arts, Namco, Astraware, PopCap, Fresh Games and Apple’s own internal developers.
Gameloft’s debut game makes good sense for the service as Lost episodes are already a big seller in iTunes’ video store.
"We think iPod owners are going to love being able to play Lost on the iPod," said Michel Guillemot, president of Gameloft, in the initial announcement. “Lost has a huge following and we’re excited to have developed this game which is a perfect complement to the show.”
