Games Media Awards 2015 Finalists: Video Team

As we count down to the awards event on Wednesday October 14th, MCV profiles the finalists for this year’s Games Media Awards. Here we look at the Video Team category.

Most have provided the words themselves:

VideoGamerTV

VideoGamerTV is nonsense. Made up of a group of morons whose one purpose is to bring ridicule to the masses, it features countless fictional individuals and continuous use of the word ‘chuff’. In the last few months, they’ve barely even played a video game. Be powerful…

GamesRadar

Comprising of just two members of staff the GamesRadar+ UK video team not only makes content for Future’s flagship games site but also supports the rest of the games portfolio. Having previously worked on CVG’s video output before it closed, the team now has the task of building GamesRadar’s video audience from humble begins to a fully established and well recognised channel.

Videogame Nation

Co-hosted by gaming journalists Dan Maher and Aoife Wilson and comedian John Robertson, Videogame Nation is a celebration of games, gamers and gaming culture that airs on Challenge TV. Featuring one major gaming release per week, the show is a blend of reviews, conversation, comedy and competition.

Bit Socket

Some people will tell you that the Bit Socket boys talk about Yakuza all the time, but really it’s only for most of the time.Bit Socket is a youtube channel and podcast made by Scott White and Joe Merrick. Scott and Joe have been best pals since they were at primary school. Bit Socket is all about two pals loving games and talking about them passionately, with enthusiasm and positivity. The videos celebrate little known games or stick up for games that have been shortchanged. The podcast is full of features – some regular, some one-off – that gently poke fun at some our most loved games, from the lyrical genius of Richard Jacques to Jimmy Shand’s Ceilidh cover of Snake Eater. And yes, both Bit Socket boys love Yakuza.

AppSpy

AppSpy is Pocket Gamer’s video wing, and as such we cover all manner of games across mobile, handheld, and wearable formats. Their dedication to early hands-ons, rounded reviews, and fantastic features have garnered them with 40 million views, and they show no sign of stopping any time soon.

Outside Xbox

Outside Xbox is a video channel about games you can play on your Xbox.It isoperatedby YouTubevideosmiths Mike Channell, Jane Douglas,Andy Farrant and James Hills, who recentlytook delivery of a very heavy commemorativeplay button for getting1 million subscribers.

IGN

Y’know like those flickbook things that look like a book of pictures but when you flick them it looks like the pictures are moving? That’s what we’re trying to create at IGN. Fun, picture flickbooks. Also, they have sound too.

Eurogamer

Eurogamer’s editorial team of 14 reporters, editors and video producers – some of whom are old enough to know better – makes Europe’s biggest independent video games website and two YouTube channels, including the Digital Foundry tech imprint. In the past year we’ve started a big video drive, abandoned review scores, interviewed Miyamoto and played far too much Destiny.
