Unity has partnered with wireless communications firm Qualcomm to optimise the game engine for Snapdragon-powered mobile and tablet devices.
Increasing its support for the tech over the next few months, Unity said the improvements would allow developers to create "dynamic gaming experiences with high-end visuals" on numerous Snapdragon processor-based platforms.
Unity will also be making available a number of games optimised specifically for the devices later this year.
According to Qualcomm, around 770 products are powered by Snapdragon processors, with another 450 device designs also in the pipeline, although it didn’t say how many of these would actually come to fruition and be released.
The news comes on the back of a busy week for Unity, in which the middleware company announced support for the PS4 and a free four-month Unity Pro trial period for Oculus Rift developers.
“Qualcomm Technologies is passionate about mobile gaming, so we’re very excited to be working with an industry leader in game engine and tool technologies such as Unity Technologies,” said Qualcomm senior VP of product management Raj Talluri.
“This collaboration will allow the two companies to optimize the strength of Unity’s powerful rendering engine with the integrated OpenGL ES 3.0 compliant Adreno GPUs and high performance multi-core CPUs of the Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. As a result, this will help bring exceptional gaming experiences to consumers.”
