GTA5 bigger than San Andreas, GTA4, Red Dead Redemption combined

Grand Theft Auto V’s game world is bigger than those of GTA San Andreas, GTA4 and Red Dead Redemption combined, Rcokstar has revealed.

In an in-depth 18-page reveal in the latest issue of Game Informer magazine, the game’s art director Aaron Garbut confirmed what we already knew – this is Rockstar’s biggest open-world game yet.

One of the reasons for the massive world is the sheer size of Los Angeles itself, which is depicted in the game as Los Santos. Rockstar’s VP of creative Dan Houser said that they had only scratched the surface as far as LA goes in games like San Andreas and Midnight Club: Los Angeles.

Houser wanted a more accurate depiction of LA in GTA5, saying, We felt we hadn’t done that with San Andreas, which was these very small, sketch-like cities.”

Rockstar has upped the verticality as well. Besides more freedom with choppers and planes, the ocean bed has also been mapped this time around, allowing players to throw on scuba gear and explore the bottom of the sea.

In other big GTA5news, Rockstar also revealed to the magazine that for the first time in the series, the game will feature three playable protagonists.

The second trailer for GTA5 is set to be released next Wednesday (14th November). The game is scheduled for release around April-May 2013 for Xbox 360 and PS3.
