JAPAN: PS3 sales slump further

Proving that it’s sales popularity is

anything but a passing success

, Xbox 360 has outsold PS3 for the sixth week in succession in Japan this week, according to figures from Media Create.

Microsoft’s machine sold 7,844 units for the week ending October 26th – nearly double the number of that managed by PS3, whose 3,931 is the lowest the console has seen since its release.

It’s not all bad news for Sony, though, with the recent release of its third generation PSP ruling the roost with sales of 60,467, rounding off a strong debut for the machine. Nintendo’s DS and Wii managed sales of 22,965 and 24,292 respectively.

And the PS2 continues to justify its ongoing place in the marketplace, outpacing its younger brother with sales of 6,962.
