Public gives green light for sequel to 1988 RPG

Kickstarter joy as Wasteland 2 hits $900k target

California studio inXile now has a $1 million budget for its Wasteland 2 project, with the game’s Kickstarter initiative hitting its goal in a sensational 48 hour funding blitz.

Brian Fargo, the inXile director who spearheaded the crowdfunding initiative, said the Kickstarter triumph has formed "the best week of my life!"

The studio was hoping to make $900,000 before April 17th, which Fargo said he’d add $100,000 to if funding targets were met, to finance a sequel to its post-apocalyptic RPG Wasteland.

The first Wasteland game, released in 1988, is said to be “an inspiration for the Fallout series”.

At the time of going to press, Wasteland 2 has 16,192 backers pledging $928,297 in total.

Thirty-three days remain for the project.

The studio has already published a roadmap for how it will use additional funds.
