Second Life developer Linden Lab is setting up a development team in the UK and has chosen coastal city Brighton for the location of its new office.

Linden Lab preps studio in Brighton, UK

Job postings at the Linden Lab official site say the company is looking for "wickedly brilliant software development generalists to work on all facets of our development initiative".

The company is looking for coders to help with R&D for its virtual community, graphics software developers, web developers, and also ops staff.

It seems the company is hoping the move will attract staff that is not willing to relocate to the corporate HQ in San Francisco, but still want to work on Second Life: on the official blog for the Second Life community, software engineer Jim Purbrick recently posted "Have you thought about working for Linden Lab, but didn’t want to move to the US?"

Open since 2003, Second World is a web-based 3D world that substitutes social interaction and commerce for gameplay. The world has recently attracted a lot of mainstream attention as business and entrepreneurs set up virtual spaces and sell items.

Brighton is already a very busy place for games development. As well as playing host to the Develop conference and expo, the studios and dev companies including Relentless, Zoe Mode, NCSoft, Babel Media and Disney Interactive Studios’ racing team are based there.
