MCV @ GAMESCOM PREVIEW: Diablo III: Reaper of Souls – Ultimate Evil Edition

Hell is coming to the PS4 and Xbox One.

Diablo III, Blizzard’s gothic RPG which launched on PC in 2012 before coming to PS3 and Xbox 360 last year, is set to hit the current and last console generations on August 19th in the form of the Reaper of Souls – Ultimate Evil Edition.

Collecting the base game and its Reaper of Souls expansion pack, Ultimate Evil Edition features all of the improvements made for the game’s original jump to consoles, including a redesigned user interface, direct character control, Apprentice Mode and the Nemesis System, where monsters who defeat the player can go onto invade players on his or her friends list.

EVIL FOR ALL

Blizzard hopes that the new version of the game will satiate demon hunters old and new, and provide the fullest experience of the game to console owners.

The Ultimate Evil Edition provides the perfect opportunity for new players to pick up the complete Diablo III console experience and existing players to continue their adventures,” a Blizzard representative tells MCV @ Gamescom. We’re very excited about the features tailored for console, as well as the sheer amount of content that players will be able to enjoy.”

While Diablo is considered by many to be a PC gaming staple, Blizzard highlights the benefits provided to console players.

The console versions of Diablo III are finetuned to make for an epic controller-driven on-the-couch experience,” the firm says. Players will encounter the same actionpacked Diablo-style gaming experience they’ve enjoyed on PC, but this time can share it with up to three buddies in front of the same TV.”

Whether playing alone or with friends, Blizzard says that the Ultimate Evil Edition of Diablo III will be an equal – rather than a lesser – to the PC game.

We’ve developed a reputation for focusing on quality, not only in the gaming experience, but also in the way we deliver that experience to players via retail and online channels. Our efforts with this Ultimate Evil Edition will be no exception.”
