Indie dev tool firm to launch new browser game portal after IAC steps in

Media firm takes majority stake in GarageGames

US media firm IAC has taken a majority stake in indie developer and tools company GarageGames.

According to a report on The Wall Street Journal, IAC – which is owned by mogul Barry Diller, who helped found broadcasting company Fox Broadcasting – plans to set GarageGames to work on devising in-browser 3D gaming technology.

IAC wants to move away from the traditional more simplistic 2D in-browser casual game market using GarageGames’ new technology.

Garage Games produces the Torque engine suite, a varierty of tools aimed at independent developer, and has developed an XBLA title.
