The tech inside the next iteration of Xbox has been revealed to Digital Foundry

Microsoft reveal Project Scorpio specs

The specs for the next iteration of the Xbox games console, currently known as Project Scorpio, has been revealed by website Digital Foundry, after they were invited to Microsoft’s Redmond HQ to look at the system.

The highlights so far are that Project Scorpio is hitting the touted six-teraflop speed that was a key soundbyte from last year’s E3 reveal. This is thanks to a custom GPU with 40 compute units running at 1172MHZ, a a new Eight core custom CPU by long term partners AMD and a hefty 12GB of GDD5 fast memory.

This sees a large increase compared to the Xbox One and One S’s current horsepower, and a significant increase on it’s nearest competitor, Sony’s PS4 Pro. All of this in aid of achieving 4K graphics and a 60fps frame rate for games, demonstrated to the Digital Foundry team with Forza Motorsport’s ForzaTech 4K engine.

Also confirmed is that the console will have an internal power supply, a custom built vapour-chamber cooling soloution, a 1TB hard drive and even upgrades to allow the internal GameDVR to capture at 4K and 60fps.
