Microsoft ups 360 back-compat support

Some has suspected that in the light of the upcoming Xbox Originals service on Xbox Live, Microsoft’s support of its ongoing backwards compatibility efforts on 360 might wane – but next month’s ‘Fall Update’ will bring with it a renewed roster of compatible Xbox games.

Newly-functioning titles will include FIFA 06, Baldurs Gate: Dark Alliance, Burnout 2: Point of Impact, Championship Manager 2006, Colin McRae Rally 2005, Freedom Fighters, Rugby 2006, Starsky & Hutch, Test Drive and The Lord Of The Rings: The Third Age.

Microsoft’s Japanese arm also claims that the update will bring with it another 360 Menu Blade shuffle, with the new Game Library encompassing all the previous entries for Xbox Live Arcade, demos and downloads. Marketplace will be receiving a similar tidy-up, and will be split into four categories – Recommended Content, What’s New, Game Store and Video Store.

There will also be some added social functionality, with the facility for gamers to browse the friends list of friends on their own list.
