New toy sets confirm LEGO Batman 2: Super Heroes

Artwork printed inside a new range of LEGO Super Hero toys confirms LEGO Batman 2 is in development for Wii, 3DS, 360 and PlayStation formats.

LEGO’s new Super Hero line of building sets begins are due to official release in 2012, but some US retailers are already stocking them.

The instruction books feature ads for ‘LEGO Batman 2 – Super Heroes’, with artwork including Superman and Wonder Woman. Those two are also getting their own LEGO sets. In fact, the construction kits are due to feature a range of DC characters, from fellow hero Green Lantern to villains such as Lex Luthor and The Joker, so many have speculated they too will appear in the new game.

The ad in the sets says the game is heading to 3DS, Wii, Xbox 360 and unspecified PlayStation formats (most likely both Vita and PS3).

LEGO Super Heroes is a special new line from the Danish toy firm – it has scored licences from both DC Comics and Marvel, and will release sets inspired by both comic universes’ characters, from Batman and Superman through to Spiderman, Wolverine and The Avengers.

Batman toy sets arrive early next year, with Marvel related ones due in the summer in time for The Avengers movie.

The LEGO Batman 2 video game was originally revealed by Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment head Martin Tremblay during an interview over the summer.

No release date has been given, but MCV’s informed guess is that it will arrive during 2012 (when the LEGO Super Heroes range is due in stores), and will likely be timed near the launch of The Dark Knight Rises movie, out in July.
