Next-gen SSX in development

The SSX snowboarding franchise could be getting a revival this year after a three-year absence.

Vancouver-based EA Black Box has been working on a new SSX game for PS3 and Xbox 360 during the past two years which will feature controls similar to Skate, according to Kotaku.

A source ‘familiar with development of the game’ claims the title will take the SSX series back to its roots”.

The reports follow website domain registrations made by EA earlier this year which suggest the game could be called SSX Deadly Descent or SSX First Descent.

EA Sports president Peter Moore also teased an obscure new title” on his blog yesterday, which will be announced at this weekend’s Spike Video Game Awards.

He said: Set on what appears to be one of the most treacherous mountain ranges on the planet, this is one we’re watching with a lot of anticipation. Hope you are too.”

It’s been three years since SSX Blur was released on Wii. The series first arrived on PS2 in 2000 which preceded a string of multiformat sequels.

The new SSX game will apparently feature avalanches, hurricane winds, falling rocks, helicopter drops and base-jumping.
