NGDC 2012: Top-down stealth title Heera wins BYOG sprint

The three-day Build Your Own Game game development sprint, which was organised by Indie Game Dev India in association with the NASSCOM Gaming Forum, came to a conclusion on day one of the NASSCOM Game Developer Conference today.

The finalists assembled at the conference venue, where the game prototype of each finalist was played by a jury of game developers including keynote speaker and Sledgehammer Games VP Glen Schofield.

The runners-up prize went to a team of students from DSK Supinfocom and their unique platformer Andhera. Featuring a black and white art style, the game allows the player to play as one of three creatures – a rat, a bat, or a spider, each with its own advantages and disadvantages.

While the jury loved the game’s art style and the original idea, the presence of bugs kept Andhera from the top prize.

First place went to top-down stealth game Heera, which was developed by one-man team Tanmay Chinchkar, who also happens to be a DSK Supinfocom student.

The jury chose Heera for its instantly addictive gameplay, and the potential for its expansion into a larger game with more gameplay elements.

While both winner and runners-up received Xolo smartphones, the winner will also have the opportunity to have his game published by Intel.
