Nintendo has confirmed Wii U and 3DS titles will be able to offer cross-play support with other consoles, handhelds and mobile devices.
Speaking with VG247, a Nintendo representative backed indie studio Ripstone’s recent claim that the company had given the feature the go-ahead for its title Pure Chess.
We can confirm that cross-platform functionality is possible in certain titles that play on Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, as well as other video game systems not made by Nintendo,” the rep said.
We are committed to helping developers realise the full potential of their software on Nintendo systems.”
Along with Pure Chess, the rep added that fellow indie Cubeman 2 and Disney Interactive’s Disney Infinity will have the ability to play on Nintendo hardware concurrently with those playing on other systems.
We can confirm that Disney Infinity from Disney Interactive Studios, Cubeman 2 from Three Sprockets and Pure Chess from Ripstone,” the rep revealed.
All have the ability to play on Nintendo systems while at the same time communicating with consumers using those same games on other systems. Additional games using this functionality are in development.”
Cubeman 2 will feature cross-play with the PC version of the game, Disney Infinity will utilize apps for mobile cross-play, and Ripstone is looking for Sony to approve cross-play for Pure Chess on PS3 and Vita – in addition to iOS and Android.
