Nintendo announced last week that Genyo Takeda was retiring from his current position within the company.
It was also noted that he wanted to continue and that he felt he could still make a contribution to the company, and so this week he has been announced as a Special Corporate Advisor to Nintendo.
The 68 year old decided to retire from his postition as his term of office was due to expire on June 29th, the annual general shareholders meeting. He is being succeeded by Ko Shiota
Takeda has been with the company since 1971, most recently as representitve director and ‘Technology Fellow’. His R&D3 team hearlded many innovations including the battery back up system for the NES/Famicom carts and was also one fo the lead developers to Nintendo’s successful Wii console. He also had a hand in game design as director of NES classic, Punch Out!
Nintendo’s official translation of the Q&A following the announced departure said he was staying on as an advisor to help the company with its continued focus on ‘technology and play’. President Tatsumi Kimishima said "Takeda’s knowledge, experience and personal connections cannot be easily transferred. We plan to take over those over time in consulting with him. We hope to progress to the next stage by combining Takeda’s advice and support (as Special Corporate Adviser) with the new skills of our young employees."
