Oculus confirms Palmer Luckey still at company with a new role to be announced soon

A few days ago we reported that Oculus’ co-founder Brendan Iribe was stepping down as the CEO of the company and taking a new role heading up the company’s newly formed PC VR team during a time of great changes for the company.

Venturebeat took the opportunity to ask Oculus if Palmer Luckey was going to remain involved with the company he founded, after both he and the company attracted fire when it was revealed that Luckey –– once the posterboy for both Oculus and virtual reality –– had ties to a group spreading crude election propaganda in the run up to this year’s controversial election.

In the aftermath, Luckey vanished from social media channels and events while Oculus quickly stated they weren’t in agreement with the founder’s views. This left many speculating whether Luckey would continue to be involved with the company, however in a response, an Oculus Spokesperson has confirmed to Venturebeat that: "Palmer is still at Oculus and we’ll have more to share on his new role soon."

2017 is looking like it could be the awkward adolescence of virtual reality, and it’s going to be interesting to see how Luckey factors into Facebook’s plans for the future of the medium.
