New IP Salvaged harnesses studio's One Touch Connect tech

Opposable Games wins £25,000 in Digital Innovation second-screen contest

Bristol developer Opposable Games has won £25,000 and the IC Tomorrow Digital Innovation content award for second-screen use in a game.

The competition was set up earlier this year to provide funding to developers who could successfully prototype innovative game ideas in emerging areas of gameplay.

Opposable Games’ space action title Salvaged and second-screen tech One Touch Connect beat nearly 100 other entrants in the second-screen category, which was supported by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe.

The prize money will be used to help enable the developer to integrate and perform testing on a range of other features for the title.

As well as winning £25,000, Opposable Games will also be provided with mentoring, user testing and promotional support. The studio will retain the rights to its IP.

"We’ve long been passionate about using second-screen innovations to connect players with gaming experiences in new and exciting ways, and to get recognition of the potential of our One Touch Connect technology from the TSB and SCEE is a wonderful endorsement of the team’s hard work and vision," said Opposable Games MD Ben Trewhella.

"We’re really looking forward to further proving out Salvaged and sharing some of it with the public in the new year.”

The Digital Innovation Contest for games is run by IC Tomorrow, a Technology Strategy Board programme designed to help stimulate economic growth in the digital sector.

The competition itself was split into five different challenges, which were second-screen Use in a Game, New Markets and Perceptual Computing, Wider Games Distribution on Mobile Web, Open Street Map Data and Games and Cinema.

In total, £125,000 was available to UK developers to create game prototypes.
