Users who abused coupon offer allowed to retain all of their purchases

Origin gaffe leaks thousands of free games

Thousands of games have been downloaded for free by Origin users after a free code giveaway went awry.

Users who had completed a survey were sent a code to get $20 off a purchase from EA’s digital store, but instead the offer allowed customers to download unlimited titles free of charge.

Users were able to bag games such as Dead Space 2, Crysis, Command & Conquer 3 and 4, Battlefield 2 and Mirror’s Edge.

EA has since ended the offer and made the code invalid, but has allowed any customers who abused the coupon to retain all of their purchases.

“The coupon code is now expired; we’ll honor all sales made with the coupon code over the weekend and hope fans enjoy their games,” read a statement from a spokesperson on the EA forum.

In response to the angry customers who had yet to use the code however, the spokesperson said they would not be able use it anymore.

“I understand why some folks may be frustrated that the coupon code ended early, but the coupon is now expired,” read the statement.
