German audio service and tech firm poised to use UK as launchpad for psai

Periscope sets sights on international stage

Hamburg audio firm Periscope Studio has told Develop that it plans to tackle the international industry, starting with a move on the UK market.

“After having remarkable success in Germany in the last two years – seen from our point of view – we are now taking our first steps on the international stage," revealed Jan Werkmeister, managing director of Periscope Studio. "Now the time has come to officially introduce ourselves to the UK market which is, in our opinion, the most important for us.

Based in a converted submarine engine factory beneath the surface of Hamburg, Periscope Studio offers a range of audio and recording services, and has recently begun to focus on pushing its psai dynamic audio middleware.

"With our broad range of audio services for video games and, most important of all, our own revolutionary audio middleware psai, we are an interesting partner for UK developers and publishers that want not only the complete package of audio services but also want to set the bar high in terms of integrating innovations into their products," said Werkmeister. "With psai, which is currently in development, we believe we have ‘an ace up our sleeve."

Psai promises to enable truly interactive music in-game, and has been well received by game developers across Germany, where a number of titles that harness the tech’s power – including Black Mirror 2 and The Whispered World – have won audio awards.

"It`s like a magic moment," enthused Werkmeister. "Our whole team is excited about the big steps we are taking. Everything is set up perfectly, we have our unique technology and looking forward to meeting many interesting people from the UK games industry and working on some truly fantastic projects.”
