Phantom Gamestore actually arrives

One of the most famous pieces of vapourware is back with the news that Phantom has actually launched its online games portal – and the firm still insists that its Phantom Lapboard is on track for release next year.

The online store features 2,600 PC games including recent releases such as Fallout 3 and Far Cry 2, all of which can be downloaded with a lifetime ownership licence.

Phantom Entertainment has also announced that it has secured yet more funding, which it intends to use to manufacture its Phantom Lapboard – which, effectively, is a keyboard and mouse attached to a plastic board. It claims the hardware will release in January – around three years after it was first supposed to arrive.

Phantom has also opened a warehouse in Missouri, which it claims is ready to fulfil the ‘demand’ for the new hardware.

The firm has also announced that the first 100 users to sign up for its store will receive a ‘premium’ game for free, and anyone who orders a Lapboard in January will receive a free casual game.

When Phantom was first announced it was billed as set-top-box based game download service, but with genuine real-life portals subsequently arriving and offering the same service without the need for additional hardware, Phantom has struggled to gain credibility.
